Asia Miles can be redeemed on all Asia Miles partners, including AA and JL. Asia Miles can be used to upgrade on AA flights, but AA miles cannot be used to upgrade CX flights.

If you are talking about long haul J awards, it is rare that you can see more than two awards on the same flight in any inventory, regardless of the programme. Asia Miles does have a slight advantage as you can waitlist on CX awards using Asia Miles.
