Sounds like a misinformed agent. One Day passes are not surrendered upon entry. They are stamped with the current date (unless this process has gone digital recently) and you get them back.

Taking a guess but I would assume what if was going from LAS-ATL-BOS on a red-eye. If my departing flight was say 03/19/14 from LAS to ATL but my ATL-BOS was 03/20/14 my boarding pass would be valid on either day to use the pass.
It doesn't say anywhere its not good at multiple locations in the rules...hmm. Twitter War?
