One little trick is that if a coupon will not apply when modifying, change the car type to get Hertz.com to reset and apply it. After booking with the new car type, you can then go in and modify it again to go back to your original car type.
I would never do that. If you have a low rate for a specific vehicle type, and want to protect yourself in it, that would change the rate!
I made dozens of reservations last year when a low weekly rate glitch that AAA had was coming up nationwide (I posted it in this forum). I've still got upcoming reservations in April and May. If I did what you advocate, I'd lose that rate.
