Lots of great advice above for you. Let me add that the weather may or may not cooperate with you on this. If it doesn't, it makes no difference where you take your photographs -- there will be nothing to shoot.

Still, I hope that you'll have at least one clear day. If you can get one, I'm sure you'll get some stunningly beautiful photos of the L.A. basin. On some clear days, from some vantage points, you can see snow-capped mountains, the massive metropolis, and the gorgeous beaches.
