That is just one of many sites you can find about this.
But it doesn't fit the facts(?) involving MH370. They are saying that the aircraft changed course and followed a new set of waypoints foreign to the planned route to Beijing. Also, the transponder did not quit functioning in the Stewart crash, and I'll bet the ELT did activate.
