Resolution:

Aeroplan scheduling did not call me as I was told. They went ahead and made arrangements for me. Still flying BGR > PHL (they had no way of knowing I preferred to fly out of Canada). They set me up 1st class direct from PHL>LAS. So only one connection and the long flight in 1st class. Can't complain about that.
