I have a general question to ask:

I currently have 4 personal AMEX cards and 0 business card:
1) SPG ~ 10k CL
2) Blue Cash Everyday #1 ~ 2k CL
3) Blue Cash Everyday #2 ~ 16k CL
4) Blue Cash (Old Version) ~ 3k CL

I'm interested in applying for the new AMEX cards coming out next month so I can get ways to earn membership rewards, but I "heard" that only 4 AMEX personal cards are allowed. Seeing how I have 2 AMEX Blue Cash Everyday cards, it makes sense to get rid of one.

So my question is, should I transfer the credit line from #3 to #2 first and then close #3 before I apply for the new card? Or should I apply first and when it says pending review, call AMEX and ask him to re-allocate the CL and then cancel #3 if needed?

Which one is more likely to grant me an automatic approval? I have excellent credit (with mortgage), so only thing that'd stop me from instant approval is the # of cards and # of inquiries.

Thanks!

**** The reason I have 2 BCE cards was due to a mistake by an AMEX rep. After maybe ~10 calls to AMEX, a supervisor offered me $250 credit to compensate for my time. I actually just got another pre-approved BCE offer in mail - $250 rather the regular $150/$100 offer, how many BCE cards does AMEX want me to have....
