There seems to be a serious confusion in government about the purpose of security checks in airports. They seem to think more security checks are better and sprinkle them randomly about without any concept that they cost billions in lost economic output. Who is making these decisions? Why are they never questioned?
Typically, clearning immigration means reclearing security for a domestic flight in almost every major airport.
It's the same thing in the USA, Canada, HK, TPE, ICN, NRT...
(even international to international clears security for these airports.)
Unless, of course, your final destination is your point of entry (i.e. LHR-MAD would not face additional security at MAD if only entering the Schengen area at MAD and entering the city.)
