I think the T&Cs do allow for point expiration but Marriott makes a very big thing about the fact they don't and I've not heard of anyone suffering expiry.
That's definitely a good benefit that not all other hotel chains give. I've had other accounts closed due to inactivity, so it is nice when a hotel chain doesn't force you to proactively manage accounts with no recent stay activity.
In my case, Marriott has nothing to worry about. IHG . . . to me it is a big benefit that points don't expire. I stay there pretty rarely, but when I do, it's always nice to know the points are still around.
