Totally agree - I'd always prefer this place (and a few others of its ilk) to one of the grand palace hotels which are run by big chains and seem rather impersonal.

please mention those whenever it is appropriate to the discussion. Those sound to me like the real luxury gems. Too often it feels as if one person's definition of luxury is allowed to trump all others.
I am delighted to hear a 4 star establishment in a major destination being praised on this forum with proper justification.
