Sounds like CIBC is making a pitch for our business. I thought we'd all be going completely south to TD. Printing up a mock statement of my cancelled card and reminding me of my old 50K limit (with balance of $0), definitely made me think multiple times about CIBC this past week. It took me years to get up to the 50K limit.
IME, getting approval for multiple CIBC Aerogolds has not been so easy, as some seem to think, but still do-able. It did however, became very easy last year, after it was announced that TD would be the new player in the arena, and then they went into ramped-up signup mode, to get as many new cardholders as possible, so that they could fatten up their corporate wallets with the impending sale of 50% of the Aerogold accounts to TD. But, now with the new promo, offered at 20K Aeros (whereas it's been 15K in the previous 3 promos) , I've had to work 'harder' to get a second card within the same promo period. So, it is not as easy as it sounds to get duplicates, though YMMV.

If you didn't cancel your old card with the $50K credit limit, you'd probably get a decline on a new CIBC card signup...for peons (like me), they have a maximum $50K limit, cumulative across all of my CIBC CCs (including MCs and VISAs)...so, at one time when I had already $50K combined credit limit, I had a 'partial' decline on my next card application, but it just required me to call in to give them permission to shift the balance from one of my older cards to create a new AeroInfinite (requires $5K minimum credit limit).
