Yeah, Indian airports are pretty bureaucratic. You need to show printed itinerary (or on mobile phone) to enter the terminal. Once inside, you may not be able to get out. Arriving pax, once they step outside, cannot get back in. Most of us have internalized all this and plan our goodbyes, coffee stops, bath room breaks, etc accordingly.
