Thanks for the input, it does appear that there is insurance that I can buy that covers this 'risk' - it's a little more than market but to hedge the c£11k it represents value.

Without getting too personal some people have asked why not just avoid getting pregnant in certain months (thereby having no risk of pregnancy at Christmas) - This makes sense in theory but having taken 4 years to conceive our first (insert stamina based joke) and both of us getting older time is not on our side so missing 2-3 months opportunity isn't an option. Enough biology.
