Wrong! It starts from the day of approval.
There was a famous newspaper story a year or so ago related to that about a guy who got mad and cancelled his AA card when he found out that he only had 2.5 months (or whatever) from the time he had the card in hand, rather than 3 full months, to complete the minimum spend!
