First up welcome to FlyerTalk (first time I have been able to say that )
As has been said it would be very hard and in fact almost impossible to open a door at cruise height. If you did yes anything in close proximity could in theory be sucked out but pressure would equalise very quickly. It is very very unlikely to result in a crash.

Windows are double or in most cases triple windows made of Lexan which is almost unbreakable. You would need a sledgehammer to a hope of getting thru one. If anything they are tougher than the skin itself.

I have had a window blow out in a Fokker F27 but this was in Africa and that plane should never have been flying even on the crappy cargo run it was on let alone in a pressurised state. It was not a big deal, a loud bang, a big wind and a desire to lose altitude fast. The guys up front got us down to a reasonable altitude fast and we continued at a low flight level to our destination. I can not see this ever happening on an aircraft in normal service. The message is please don't fear the very unlikely event of a window blowout. I have never heard of it happening on an aircraft on any sort of flight you are likely to be on and if it ever did it's not a big deal. Scary? Yes but not fatal. Aircraft are a hell of a lot tougher than you may think.

If you would like to ask any further questions please PM me and I will be glad to talk you thru them in an honest manner.

More and more I feel you are correct and it's not where we are looking.
