I had a hell of a job convincing the UA ORD F lounge agent that as UK passport holders not only didn't we need a Brazilian visa we were exempt from from having to pay the reciprocity fee as well.
It took her an age including a phone call before she realised what I was saying was true. Her excuse was that "we don't get many foreign passengers connecting at GRU".

I have used a foreign passport at YYZ and at DFW boarding without any problems (other than a quick TIMATIC query.)
Brazil's
QGRV now has much more detailed information about accords between each nation for more information to the agent.
