Your earlier advice looks sound to me.....especially the part about turning up early at IAH in case he has to plead his case.

I had a hell of a job convincing the UA ORD F lounge agent that as UK passport holders not only didn't we need a Brazilian visa we were exempt from from having to pay the reciprocity fee as well.

It took her an age including a phone call before she realised what I was saying was true. Her excuse was that "we don't get many foreign passengers connecting at GRU".
