I think that people are taking this as a binary situation -- AA vs. Citi -- when it's not. I will be shocked if, after AA strips the 900K miles, status & closes the account to further earning, if Citi does not pursue OP for the cost of at least the 200K which Citi purchased from AA. I have no idea what Citi pays, but if it's $0.02 per miles, that's $4,000.
You can open two AA exec cards and net 200K for $500. People are tripping over each other doing this in the other thread. Do you think citi is losing 3.5K in each such case? I would think citi is probably very low bulk fee for these miles.
