I transit EZE from/to SCL and the USA frequently, and I have never been required to show proof of onward travel, although the security people at the X-Ray machine sometimes ask me where I'm going (not even flight number!). To be safe, I'd have something that shows your itinerary, but you can have the LAN Salon VIP print your BP for you.
But the issue is getting on the plane in the USA on an aircraft headed to EZE without proof of reciprocity fee payment. It isn't the EZE connection that is the issue. It is the issue of the "Friendly" airline letting him board in the first place.
