Items damaged most likely by authorities. LH liable?

Hi everybody,

today I flew BOG-FRA on LH 543. At FRA I noticed that my TSA lock on my suitcase was broken. It was obvious that my bag was searched because all its contents were in a mess. However, nothing was missing so I didn't take any further steps.

A closer look at home revealed that some originally sealed candy and a bag of coffee that I brought from Colombia as a gift was pierced with a knife or a similar item. Obviously, now I can't give these things away as a gift. For me, it looks like they were searching my suitcase for drugs and didn't find anything.

Because there was no official note about the search left in the suitcase, I am wondering if I can make LH liable for the damage to the food.

Was it my fault to lock the suitcase with a TSA lock? I thought that altough it's called "TSA-lock", authorities of other countries have the keys to open the locks, as well.

Thanks!
