Advice re changing travel dates (medical reasons)

Apologies, some of this might be vague.

I booked a ticket for my mother in the winter sale. Travel dates 26th April-6th sept. I paid by Amex but I highly doubt I'm covered for changes. (Mother doesn't have travel insurance of her own, she's never felt the need...)

In the last couple of weeks, she became ill. She isn't too bad at the moment, however her appointment (to have it investigated) won't be until 15th April. Although that date is within the travel plans, mother's concern is that she won't know about further appointments until she has been to the initial one.

The question I have for now is, whether her ticket type will allow date changes and if so, whether any further fees or penalties might be applicable.

All I could glean from the ticket T&C's is
Pax non ref change restrictions apply ba only not endorsable

Assuming this means is can change the dates, I tried to check the service fees calculator but all I get is "£0 fees" whatever option I chose. (seems a bit too good to be true!)

I haven't phoned BA yet because I'm not sure what to ask em to do. Mother want to wait until 15th April when she will know more. I think that's cutting it fine though.
