First Class [for 50k DM miles RT] on AA new A32B (transcontinental) via US Airways

Mile Saver Tip (newb here, so not sure if these go in "Miles Buzz", but figured it's merger relevant if anything)...

While awaiting business class award space to free up for a flight on AA new transcontinental 321 (JFK-SFO), I wandered on over to US Airways to see if I could book via that route.

When you do an award search, only 2 classes of service show up (coach and first class) each with a high/low award level. On this particular flight there was availability for First Class at the "Low" award level (25k points each way).

I called US Airways to ask if these were in fact First Class or Business Class seats (since the 25k each way is the Business Saver level when booked via AA), or if perhaps this was just an odd issue of not being able to handle 3-class domestic service. Turns out, they are in fact First Class seats.

So - save yourself 15k mi (50k vs. 65k) and book First Class seats on these aircraft via US Airways...for now.

This actually stinks for me as I was looking for business class avail (would actually like to sit NEXT to my wife), but might be useful for someone else. Anybody know if AA would let me downgrade after the fact? What are the odds someone on the plane would want to switch?

One more small factoid - Business Class fares on this flight ($3800) are actually more than First ($3600)...any ideas why what might be?
