Well VS agents advised that the names should match exactly

But it's a bit late to do anything about it now. You should have changed the name 1 month ago.

Did you know Hilton only allows 18 characters in the first name? Fortunately my dad will never be using that Virgin account again, but he would have problems if he wanted to fly VS as well as transfer to Hilton. According to VS your flying club name must be full passport name
