Retaining Gold on Airpoints

Hello! Having grown up in New Zealand, when I started travelling, I was signed up for Airpoints before I knew anything about status and miles. It was a simpler time.

I've travelled a lot in recent years and have managed to work my way up to Airpoints / Star Alliance Gold. Now of course, the challenge is retaining it. I still travel a lot but it seems unlikely that I'll be able to retain at the rate I'm going. Reading through this forum doesn't inspire much confidence either, reading that Airpoints actually isn't a very easy system to do that on.

So - I'm going to be in the US for a month and I was wondering if there were any status runs or anything I could do while there to bump it up a bit. Is this even possible or is it a lost cause?

I realise that 400 or so need to be earned on AirNZ flights which is not a problem, I am likely to get those from my normal travel, so if I can pick up at least 400 SP on partner airlines then I'll be sitting happy. Any advice is much appreciated!
