Cannot speak on the retention offer. However when there was a 6 months clause in the T&Cs, and card was canceled before that period, Chase indeed clawed back the UA bonus - happened to self and some friends.
So Chase definitely has the ability to claw back miles. Whether it would do that on the retention offer, we like to get some data point. May be you would do it for the team?
