Technically, they are probably correct. AA benefits should require crediting to AA. This can be overridden at the gate where the AA benefit applies and the flight credits to AS, but this would appear to be against the letter of the rules. Cool if it works, but little recourse if not. Probably very hard to get it done after-the-fact since they seem to be correct.

Yes, I did asked at the check-in desk before boarding the flight and the agent said he has updated the record with AS number, but unfortunately it seems the agent did not do it the right way and the flights got credited to AA. Seems no dice after the fact now.
