How to dispute the reason for a flight cancellation?
Pretty sure I"m barking up the wrong tree here before I even start. Nonetheless.
Horrible experience earlier this week flying home where my UAX flight out of ORD was eventually cancelled due to "weather". The flight kept getting delayed later and later all the time the gate staff and website saying it was due to "waiting for crew". Plane was sitting at the gate.
Gate staff refused to rebook us multiple times because it was "just a delay". After a new 2-hour delay posted, the gate staff left and never came back!!! 30 minutes after that the flight boards showed the flight as cancelled. Nobody told anyone sitting at the gate.
Had to wait in line with like 100+ other people at the customer service desk only to be told that the flight was cancelled due to "weather", and that there was no compensation. AA was flying fine and other UA and UAX flights to airports less than 100 miles from ours went out just fine in the same timeframe!!
Had to get a hotel that night on our own and were rebooked on a flight the next morning. It also was delayed by 90 minutes awaing crew!
UA denied reimbursing the hotel bill because it was a "weather cancellation". Except that's total CRAP! Any way to dispute this further, or just file a DOT complaint and to hell with them??
