With the thread title "my space or theirs" I thought you were going to talk about something else:

Articulated seats are ones in which reclining affects your space, not theirs. That's because in articulated seats, you recline by pushing your seat bottom forward, and only as your seat bottom goes forward does your seat back recline, not by the top being pushed down as much as by the bottom being pulled forward.

I first ran into articulated seats on Frontier some years ago. In recent times, AA has been retrofitting more and more planes with articulated seats. (I don't know about other airlines' use of them.)

Seek out planes with articulated seats and you won't have to feel so "guilty" about reclining.
