The US program will not automatically switch to AA rules on March 31, just as it does not currently have the same rules as UA. Your best hope is probably that it may at some point before a complete merger it will become possible to transfer miles between the two programs, as happened between UA and CO a couple of years ago. But there is no guarantee that AA/US will adopt the same interim policy.
