Sorry, I'm not trying to be inflammatory here, but you should feel guilty for your muddled thinking. If you're interested in helping people (and not just making yourself feel good), then you should do one of the following rather than volunteering.

1. Spend more money at the resort, or

2. Go home, get a job at Walmart, work the same number of hours you would volunteer and send the money back to the community. The value of your wages working at Walmart are worth a lot more to people in the local community than any value they derive from the same number of hours of your volunteer "work."

3. Better yet, work more hours at your normal job. For most people who stay at Aman, the value of one hour of labor at your real job will be enough to hire 50 people to do 50 hours of "volunteer" work. For any work that is worth doing in the local community, any one of the 50 people you hire will do it a lot a better and a lot more competently than you ever could as a volunteer.
