My experience with them and this sort of delay/misconnect due to weather or equipment has been just the opposite- as long as you can show the credit card trail for your trip being all on the amex with the coverage; and if you have something from the carrier that shows why the misconnect occurred.
I frequently use FP plus train/LH booking process- the FP one way pricing is the winner every time.
