General spend on a credit card - the only meaningful comparison is Hilton vs. Starwood. (Starwood wins, generally speaking.)

Marriott is a solid program if you play into it's strengths, but the general spend aspect of its credit card is *not* a strength. Both their $85 card and the cheaper one are pretty weak outside of Marriott hotels. Even in its 2x categories, 1 SPG > 2 MR.
