This. If you happened to get an int'l equip on a domestic route, the IFE was just left on the int'l settings that allow more free options in Y.

Think of it as a (rather good) tradeoff for generally not having wifi on these planes.

A bit OT - I'm as used to the horrid gogo speeds as the next guy, but bought a 30 min session on a SkyWest flight last week as I really needed to get some emails out before COB. The speed was actually quite impressive for gogo - IIRC in the 1.5mbps range both up and down.
