So, the only option which seems to work is transferring to her SPG, and then transfering from her SPG to mine. But, MR --> SPG is 2:1, which seems not a good deal.

You can transfer your wife's MR to your AP account. You have to do it online, not by calling Amex. As long as yours and your wife's AP accounts have the same address, you can register your AP account in your wife's MR online account. Then tranfer the points to your AP account.
