what makes Seattle a premium market? UA/AA fly a mixture of 738's and 757's with standard first class seats. In fact, UA doesn't even have NS JFK to SEA service. Maybe DL is raking in the bucks on this route from corporate contracts and they can afford to lose out on the business of its elite flyers and others?
I think it has more to do with it being a major gateway for flights to Asia for Delta. By offering BE service from the east coast they can capture some of the market that would want ultra long haul service from the east coast to asia to avoid domestic first class for the first 5 hours of the flight.
