If you are certain that the other family is not going to come, shield yourself and split the PNR's. That way, their credit stays there (unless you paid and havent gotten paid in which case you are screwed as the tickets are in their name).

I agree, SPLIT!!! Though I don't believe the no-show status will spread, as some of the coupons were marked as used, the Itinerary will not disappear, leaving those people booked on the flight, and only their coupons will revert to no-value.
