Losing status means more fees and more difficulty in getting home and no one wants it. Ive spent $1400 for two flights (regional) that have come out to $0. My spend last year was about $21k mostly in bulk.
I'm sure AA or DL would love to have you (and would value you more than UA does). And that would include status and all the goodies that come with it
DL offered a mass status match to my wife's group in a F25 company last year (and they don't travel a ton) - she enjoyed a year of DL Plat and now hates flying UA (and she's another UA MM).
