Guangzhou is such a sprawling city, it takes time to get around to see things. Time that you don't seem to have.
I don't care much about shopping or nightlife as I live in NYC and don't need to travel for shopping or nightlife. The plan for Guangzhou would have been to arrive around 7am and depart mid-morning the next day but Shenzen seems to be the winner here.
