At these new hotels the panel is instead any other switches for most lights, except that the reading lights may have individual switches.

I usually just end up hitting panel buttons in the dark and then through trial and error the light I want may or may not come on.

Fortunately I usually stay alone, I could imagine the whole setup being quite annoying if one person is trying to sleep and the other person is hitting panel buttons and lighting the room up like a Mayo Clinic O.R.
