Every time I've flown with virgin they've been a nightmare. I don't see this being the norm though as I have friends and colleagues who fly with them regularly and dont seem to have the issues ive managed to have in 4 return trips.

Personally I'd look at JAL as its part of Oneworld and therefore you'd get Avios points with your BA account.
