It really depends as both cities are not super attractive. Guangzhou has at least some history and actually something to visit. Shenzhen has zero character, history or charm but would be more comfortable when travelling to HK. If you need tips for GZ lemme know.
I've said this in other threads, but Shenzhen never ceases to amaze me. Due to its lax work/residency rules and proximity to HK, it draws people from all over China to pursue their dreams.
