I am wondering how easy it is to get reimbursed when flight/s is/are delayed or cancelled. Scenario: a few weeks ago, one of my flights YOW-YHZ-YSJ was cancelled (due to weather), forcing an overnight stay in Halifax, and an early morning flight to Saint John the next day. I refused, and since my meetings in Saint John were flexible, I changed my flight to the next day, so I did not have to stay too long in YHZ.
After I did this change, I was wondering....if my meetings were firm, with no cushion for flexibility, and I had accepted an overnight stay in Halifax so I could arrive in Saint John the next day early morning, how easy would it be to get reimbursed for an overnight stay in Halifax? What documents are required? a screen shot saying the flight was cancelled, a copy of the original ticket, receipts of taxis, meals and overnight stay in Halifax? Anything else?
Thanks!
With Chase, they want an official delay/cancellation statement from the airline, as well as all receipts for claimed expenses.
[email protected] replied in under an hour when I asked for one, which was pretty great. AA took a couple weeks (they have a special form to fill out).
You should read your card's policy though. They might want something different.
AC is usually pretty good about putting passengers up in a hotel if they're forced into an overnight at a connection point. I've had three first hand experiences of this in the past year, and I had an airport agent confirm it's policy. Each time, I was also given (minimal) food vouchers. Did AC not offer to cover these expenses?
