Today (and for the last year or so), BA have reintroduced a four course meal service on all sleeper service flights. Therefore, BA offer the pre flight supper in the lounge and you have the option on board to have a full 4 course J class meal.

Therefore you have three options:
Arrive late at the airport and have a full meal onboard.
Arrive early(ish) at the airport and have pre slight supper in the GC
Partake in both pre flight supper and the full onboard meal.

I think this makes everyone very happy and have myself enjoyed the service from JFK (including the spa)!
Its not a full four course meal. Its an option to have a full meal served on a tray instead of the lighter sleeper service option.
