As a strict Islamic state, the Maldives has a zero tolerance towards bringing in alcohol. Every single bag is scanned in the airport strictly for this purpose. I doubt there's any major port in the world that is as stringent as these guys in scrutinizing your bags. You're SUPPOSED to get your alcohol back upon departure, however. But they apparently 'lost' my 600 USD bottle of Cristal that I brought with me to surprise my wife.
