If the OP wants to be treated in a respectful manner, he shouldn't hang out in notorious red light areas like lower Sukhumvit and Pattaya/Walking Street. Those places attract low class foreigners and low class Thais who are prone to racism and dumb behavior.
The reasons for their dislike of Indians have been noted by other posters - they've had a lot of bad experiences with Indians in and around these red light areas.
I didn't realize that all of Sukhumvit was a red light district. I chose to stay there because of its central location. I guess all the 5 star hotels in the area cater to the lowest common denominator. I also had a crappy experience at the marriott cafe at the jw which I guess too was in a red light district. The place I went to on walking street to clarify was not a gogo bar or pick up joint. I guess it's OK if I have had bad experiences with certain thai people to treat them all like crap cuz after all, they are all the same.
