You can ask for compensation. I would say that this hour delay caused you to miss an important meeting and that you were checked in on time. If the pilot forgot to leave a light on yes thats a mistake just like leaving your car lights on. However you the customer were ready to go at pushback time.

Hope United will compensate you for the delay.
