Agreed .... Due to the very few >6,500nm routes that can command the demand and yield required to justify ULH costs. You buy an LR when you have busy ULH routes and have no intention of making tech stops or leaving anything/anyone behind. It's a niche aircraft, However ...
The engines on the 777LR were the most efficient engines on the planet before the Dreamliner came along. Hard to imagine the insight some must have to label that kind of performance a "fuel hog" ... But, here we are
