LAX-JFK-DOH-DEL eats up a lot of mileage. If you want to stay on QR, try for LAX-ORD-DOH-DEL, or even LAX-ORD-YUL-DOH-DEL, each of which would be less mileage than flying via JFK.

However, I would look to see if I could get award flights via the Pacific in both directions. Should make for an easier trip, with just a single connection in each direction. And if you can find award space DEL-NRT-SAN, then you can either do a one-way car-rental home, or look for a SAN-LAX award flight on AA, or even take Amtrak, depending on where you live.
