I'll admit that I am a little concerned about being followed. Especially since the cashiers sometimes say the total out loud. I like the extra income but it's not worth dying over.
I *always* ask for one of their little bags, that are just the perfect size to securely keep all 1-10 cards nice and snug, along with the receipt. I twist this closed and in my jacket pocket it goes, and zipped shut. In the car, I then put the baggie into my laptop bag or briefcase. The next time it sees daylight is at home.
To OP: terrible shame and I hope it works out OK for you. I'll bet we all never fail to lock our doors moving forward.
