Are those the Captain's exact words? Sounds more as though you only caught part of the announcement.

Most likely translates into something which runs of battery power drained a battery overnight. Thus, the battery needs to be recharged. Having a bit of auxiliary power hanging around is a good & safe thing.

Yes, having APU issues is pretty common, especially on smaller aircraft. Shows that UA or UAX is doing a good job on safety checks.
